About us
Welcome to the home base of the Elk Grove Little Theatre Company (EGLTC)! While theatre at EGHS has existed since the school’s inception and gone by several name variations (Elk Grove Afterschool Drama, EGHS Theatre), the EGLTC is a refresh to the program created by EGHS’ own Theatre Director, Leilani Kalb.
While the theatre program encompasses all aspects of theatre on campus (Theatre I and Theatre II/III classes, after-school theatre, and Theatre Club), the EGLTC is specific to the after-school theatre program that proudly presents two shows a year.
The EGLTC aims to bring artists together from across campus and forge a community focused on building each other up and improving each other. The EGLTC is not for the performers we are, it is for the performers we can become.
Led by not only a director, but a student-run council, the EGLTC welcomes all students interested in becoming a part of a community-led with empathy, love, and respect.
Check out the ways to get involved with the theatre program at EGHS below!
Theatre I:
An introduction to theatre class! In this class you will be introduced to the basics of several different facets of theatre: acting, script writing, set, lighting, and sound design, costuming, prop building, etc. Once you learn the basics, Ms. Kalb provides students with the freedom to respond to projects in a way that most interests them (some may respond to prompts by writing a script, while others may respond by reciting a monologue). This course is great for students looking to improve public speaking ability in a low stakes environment, creative students who would love an opportunity to write freely, or even students who are just seeking out community. Students in this class are not required to be part of the EGLTC, but are highly encouraged!
Theatre II/III:
An intermediate/advanced theatre class! This class is available to students who have completed Theatre I or have performance experience that have been reviewed by Ms. Kalb. The structure of this class is similar to Theatre I, however, expectations are higher on performance and content created. Theatre II/III students aim for a fully written and designed, ready-to-be directed scene to be completed by the end of the school year. Students in this class are not required to be part of the EGLTC, but are highly encouraged!
Theatre Club:
Run by a council of students and advised by Ms. Kalb, Theatre Club focuses their philanthropic efforts on supporting the EGLTC through fundraising. Students in Theatre Club meet every Thursday during lunch in the Little Theatre to play games, discuss upcoming theatre events, and just have a good time! All students are welcome to join at any point during the school year! Students in this club are not required to be part of the EGLTC, but are highly encouraged!
EGLTC:
The after school theatre program! The EGLTC is responsible for presenting two shows a year! All students are welcome to join to be part of cast, crew, or tech pending an audition and/or an application submission reviewed by Ms. Kalb. Details on how to join cast, crew, or tech are released prior to each show.
